Description

You are cordially invited to the 2017 Immunization Symposium on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 4:00-8:30pm at The Waterfront Restaurant and Tavern's Cargill Room, La Crosse.

Background Statement: The Coulee Region Immunization Coalition (CRIC) is committed to improving the immunization rates in our region. Although the Amish make up less than 1% of the population in our tri-state region, they experience a disproportionate amount of vaccine preventable diseases. Contrary to popular beliefs, most Amish are not obligated to refuse immunization. These erroneous beliefs result in missed immunization opportunities. Many patients are not aware about the importance of immunization and this includes the Amish. The average Amish family has on average six to seven children. Prenatal screening for immunity against vaccine preventable diseases is critical for the protection of the fetus and newborn, regardless of culture. Seizing the opportunity to present information on the value of maternal vaccination both before and during pregnancy may be one approach to promote immunizations.

Program Goal: To enhance the collaborative immunization efforts of public and private health care providers within the Coulee Region by providing an educational symposium focusing on immunization of women of child-bearing age to protect both women and children in all cultures but with a particular focus on the Amish population.

Target Audience: All healthcare staff who administer and/or promote the administration of vaccines in local health departments, private provider offices, hospitals, long term care, military, pharmacies, and institutions of learning.
