2017 Conference of the Association of Anglican Deacons in Canada
Thu, Jul 27, 2017, 5:30 PM – Sun, Jul 30, 2017, 12:00 PM PDT
The Light of Christ Shines -- the Association of Anglican Deacons in Canada has our national convention in Victoria from Thursday July 27th to Sunday July, 30th, 2017. We invite all deacons from the Anglican, Lutheran and other churches and everyone feeling the call to or with interest in service ministry.
There will be deacons and others from across and outside Canada. We will gather strength and peace from the Holy Spirit and each other. The conference has four themes:
Theme A - Poverty and Homelessness;
Theme B - Deacons' Experience in Canada;
Theme C - Reconciliation with First Nations; and,
Theme D - Sharing Diaconal Ministries.
Friday evening is learning about Songhees Nation's culture and history, and sharing a meal at their Wellness Centre. Saturday evening is a gala dinner and presentation of the Maylanne Maybee Award.
Your conference fee includes coffee/tea, lunch and supper on Friday and Saturday, plus an opening reception Thursday evening. If you stay at the Harbour Towers Hotel, your room rate includes a breakfast buffett.
Sunday morning is the closing Eucharist at Christ Church Cathedral.

Is the Conference only for deacons in the Anglican Church of Canada?
No! The conference is anyone with a call to service, especially with people who are poor or marginalized, and for creation. Deacons of the Anglican, Lutheran and other churches meet this description -- you might, too!
Can my spouse or friend come with me to the conference?
A friend or spouse can buy a ticket for the Friday culture dinner and/or Saturday dinner and awards. No ticket is required to be a tourist in beautiful Victoria while you enjoy the conference! If you both stay at Harbour Towers Hotel, there is no extra hotel charge for the second person during the conference.
Why would someone come to the Friday or Saturday supper and not the whole convention?
Both the Friday and Saturday supper and events have value for a spouse or anyone who is not a delegate. A substantial part of the value of any convention is the sharing and learning among people from across Canada, the United States, and perhaps elsewhere who are committed to work with marginalized people, and on behalf of the environment. The supper evenings are times to learn (the Friday evening presentation by a Songhees elder about their culture and history) and celebrate (the Maylanne Maybee Award) while sharing in this community.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Conference registration and many of the events are at the Harbour Towers Hotel, and there are special room rates if you stay there. The facilities at the hotel and Christ Church Cathedral are accessible.
If you drive to the conference, the hotel has parking. If you fly to Victoria, there is bus and taxi service from the airport to the hotel. Immediately before the conference, we plan to have people at the airport to greet and support delegates. The ferry from Vancouver has excellent bus connections to downtown Victoria and the hotel, or you can take your car on the ferry and drive. The passenger ferry from Seattle (Victoria Clipper) and the car and passenger ferry from Port Angeles (Coho) dock 2 blocks from the hotel.
What's the refund policy?
Refunds of the cost of the conference and meals can be given until 10 days (July 16th) before the conference begins. If you plan to stay at the Harbour Towers Hotel, please talk to them directly about their refund/cancellation policy.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
