SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES
Dr. Jeannie Constantinou will provide insight and discussion related to practical advice for reading the Bible with confidence and Patristic advice for reading the Bible as Sacrament.
Session 1. “Search the Scriptures!” Practical Advice for Reading the Bible with Confidence.
We all know that we ought to read the Bible more often, but how do we find the time? When we try, sometimes we feel intimidated by it. Or maybe you find it boring. Maybe it's confusing. Even if we want to read it, how or where do we begin? What if we don’t understand what we read? This program consists of practical advice on how and why to read the Bible designed to motivate people and make them feel more comfortable and confident with the Scriptures. In this entertaining presentation Dr. Constantinou will explain how the Bible is structured, where, why the Bible seems so difficult to understand, whether to start at the beginning and just read through, what kind of Bible to use, and what to do if you don’t understand what you read,
Session 2. “Search the Scriptures!” Patristic Advice for Reading the Bible as Sacrament.
The command to "Search the Scriptures!" came from the Lord Himself. But we all make excuses for why we don't read it. This is nothing new! What kinds of excuses did St. John Chrysostom's parishioners make for not reading the Bible and how did he respond? What the Fathers say about importance of reading the Bible and its benefits in our spiritual lives? This surprising and informative presentation will inspire you to read the Bible more frequently and give us the little push we all need.
