2017 Black Girls CODE Summer Camp Chicago (Ages 13+)
Event Information
Description
Overview
Our day camps provide five days of hands-on, project-based instruction, where young ladies ages 13-17 engage in tech instruction. The camps run for seven hours a day with lunch, breaks, community building, field trips and of course coding! Our camps offer a space where girls of color can learn computer science and coding principles in the company of other girls like themselves and with mentorship from women they can see themselves becoming. Camp runs from 9am- 4pm Monday- Friday with a graduation ceremony on the last day of programming from 4-6pm.
The Vision
We are in pivotal time in history in which STEM occupations are projected to grow by 17.0 percent from 2008 to 2018, compared to 9.8 percent growth for non-STEM occupations. Technology shapes everyone’s lives all over the world and will only continue to expand, therefore everyone should have an opportunity to shape and create it. We want to make sure that Black girls and girls of color are not only included in this tech revolution, but are prepared to take on leadership roles within this field and/or start their own STEM organizations for social good.
Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships will be offered. Please click HERE to apply and someone will be in touch with you.
