Event description

Description

Staffed by dedicated Brookline High English teachers and organized by parent and community volunteers, this free workshop has helped over 2,700 BHS seniors craft better essays for their college applications. Here's what past participants have said about their experiences:

Honestly, I didn't expect much from the workshop because I thought I was ready. I was wrong, because I found a much better topic.”

“My expectations were exceeded way beyond my imagination. I am confident I was given the best advice possible.”

“Now I know exactly what to do to make my essay stronger.”

“Communicating with my peers and finding out what other people were doing really helped to decrease my anxiety. Thanks for doing this. This saved my life!”

SENIORS: Whether you accomplish a lot on your essay over the summer or you’re still trying to decide what to write about when school begins next fall, this workshop will be helpful. Students work in small groups with others who are at the same writing stage, and are led by BHS teachers to work on their writing, spend some time in peer review, and get individual help and feedback from teachers and volunteers. The Workshop lasts from 8:30-Noon. Light snacks will be provided. Students are asked to bring their own water bottles.

PARENTS: Volunteers are critical to the success of this program. You can volunteer as a student advisor or as a logistics volunteer. Experience is not required (though experienced teachers, writers, and editors are welcome and encouraged to participate). This is a one-day, one-time commitment.

Registration is free. Online registration begins in August and closes on September 22 at 11:30 p.m. Students may register at the door.
