These folks are getting it all started! Volunteers here will Sign-in Pre-registered walkers & runners, distribute T-shirts, distribute Bibs to 5K runners, the Baby Buggy event bag, assist with on-site registry, and collect all donated items. When registration is complete, volunteers will move over to the snack tables to feed all our hungry walkers and runners at the end of their journey.

Remembrance/ Stage Area Volunteers
We couldn’t have a Baby Buggy Walk if we didn’t have these folks! These volunteers will assist with distributing balloons and handing out pins to recognized families during the Remembrance. Then distribute ribbons at the Finish Line. Last but not least, they will help throughout the event at the Wall of Remembrance.

5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Walk Volunteers
Ready…Set…Go! If you are volunteering here, expect to cheer along the route, encouraging our walkers and runners every step of the way, all while distributing water at multiple water stations, directing runners/ walkers to follow correct route and ensuring everyone is safe (getting first aid if needed) and having a great time!

Fun Zone Volunteers
It’s all fun and games in here! These volunteers will provide assistance and direction to game participants, cheer and encourage the children as they participate, ensure the area is safe and clean, help operate any games or activities and of course, help wrangle the kiddos.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, NO it’s a Baby Buggy SuperHero! These volunteers will work in multiple areas as needed, helping give other volunteers breaks, manning the volunteer lounge, transporting things from one place to another, helping with set-up and clean-up until the very end.

Baby Expo Volunteer
Aww... how cute! Volunteers in the Baby& Health Expo will ensure all our guests are having a great time and are safe by ensuring that the area is clean and vendors have what they need to provide information and services to our guests. We will need some of these folks to keep the donations and door prizes secure. Others might be answering questions and pointing people in the right direction.

Event Details

Register today to volunteer for the Baby Buggy Walk, being held on Ocotber 28, 2017!

Volunteers will get a Volunteer T-shirt. 

Service hours certificates will be provided for those who need documentation of their volunteer hours. 

100 CoSA Health Miles will be provided for City of San Antonio employee volunteers.

To be a volunteer:

  • Adult 18+ years of age welcome
  • Youth over 12 years old are welcomed also if accompanying by an adult, throughout the day of the event.  The youth’s parent must be present at volunteer check in to sign the Consent and Release form but any adult can accompany the youth during the event. 
  • We ask that no adult supervise more than two children  (between 12-17 years old) volunteers during the event.

Volunteers should arrive no later than 7:00am on October 28, 2017 and check-in at the Volunteer Sign-In table located on the side walk near the pool at South Side Lions Park.

After registering, please email Amanda Murray at with your T-shirt size.

General Release, Waiver of Liability and Participation Agreement 

Please Read Carefully: By registering for this event as a participant or volunteer, I hereby agree to hold harmless and relesase from all liability, Metro Health, the City, its directors, officers, employees, agents, subsidaries, affiliates, sponsors and promoters, as well as their respective directors, officers, employees, and and agents for any jury, illness, or loss of life to the participant, arising out of any connection with participation in Healthy Start program activities. I am fully aware of the risk and hazards inherent in participating in the event and elect to voluntarly participate by registering myself or any other individual under my supervision. I hereby assume all risk of loss(es), damage(s), or injury(ies) that may be sustained by myself or indiviidual under my supervision while participating in the event. I assertain that myself, and anyone under my supervision, is in good physical condition and is able to safely participate in the event. Should it be necessary for me to receive medical attention or treatment while participating in these activities, I hereby give permission for Metro Health staff and volunteers to use their best judgment in obtaining medical attention and treatment for myself. I further give permission to the medical professional that is selected by Metro Health staff or volunteer to render or not render medical attention or administer medical treatment as the medical professional deem necessary. I also give permission for Metro Health staff or volunteer to us etheir best judgment to otherwise render or not render assistance (i.e., first aid, CPR, etc) to me in the event of injury or illness. I understand that any cost incurred for such medical attention shall be my sole responsibility. By registering to paricipate in the event, I also agree to use, publication and distribution of mine or the individual under my supervision, name and photographs, videos,negatives, and sound recording taken in connection with the event in broadcasts, newspapers, brochures, and other media (including advertising or sales promotional purposes) without compensation, and hereby waive and release any claim or right participant may otherwise have arising out of such use, publication of distribution. I authorize the release to professional agencies of any educational, statistical, and other performance-related information about volunteers collected in connection with Healthy Start to be shared by any means of communication (e.g., the web, facebook, etc.).By registrering for this event, I assertain that I have read and understand this information and voluntarily register to participate and agree to the information and volulntarily registering to participate and agree to the information contained in this general release, waiver, and participation agreement.

The Healthy Families Network is a coalition led by San Antonio Healthy Start, a program of the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District. The mission of the Network is to strengthen community partnerships and linkages to reduce infant mortality and increase successful birth outcomes in San Antonio and greater Bexar County. The Network meets monthly, and our members represent organizations, advocates, volunteers and committed San Antonio residents with a passion for healthy babies. The Network hosts events, trainings and workshops for members and the larger SA maternal and child heallth workforce throughout the year.
