Description

Annual Pro Bono PARTnership Luncheon

Keynote Speaker: Nell Minow

Corporate Governance Expert and American Film Critic

For over three decades, Nell Minow has worked tirelessly as a champion for corporate governance and accountability. Minow formerly served as Principal of LENS, an investment advising firm that

bought stock in under-performing companies and used shareholder activism to increase their value. She was christened "the CEO Killer" by Fortune magazine for her track record of ousting under-performing CEOs at companies like American Express, Kodak, and Waste Management. Businessweek has called her “the queen of corporate good governance,” and she was named one of the field’s 20 most influential people by Directorship magazine.

A recipient of the prestigious International Corporate Governance Network Award for exceptional achievement, Minow has specialized in balancing the interest of corporations’ many stakeholders. Additionally, Minow served as general counsel and then President for the Institutional Shareholder Services, Inc., a firm that advises institutional investors on issues of corporate governance. Minow also practiced as an attorney at the Environmental Protection Agency, the Office of Management and Budget, and the United States Department of Justice.

Minow’s work has involved corporate governance issues in the for-profit sector as well as the nonprofit world, where good corporate governance practices often have received too little attention. Minow will focus on what organizations need to do to make sure that they have the benefit of good governance practices for sustainable strategy and operations.

Minow also is widely known as a film critic. Her reviews, columns, interviews, commentary, and other features have appeared on almost every TV network, as well as on rogerebert.com, the Huffington Post, and moviemom.com. Minow is a member of the Online Film Critics Society, the Broadcast Film Critics Association, the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association, and the Association of Women Film Journalists. She is also the founder of Miniver Press, a publisher specializing in non-fiction and a board member of the 5050 Climate Project, which works with the 50 largest institutional investors on shareholder iniatives at the 50 largest companies contributing to climate change.

Please join the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center and the Pro Bono Partnership (PART) members at this annual celebration of pro bono service.
