Description

Please join the St. Agnes Academy Alumnae Board
and SAYPO Board as they present the
2017 Veritas Award to
SHANNON BEIRNE WIESEDEPPE ’90

and the
2017 SAYPO Award to
MADELINE BURNS ’09

and honor the 2017 Class Challenge winners:
The Classes of 1943, 1962, 1975, 1980, 2015 and 2012

SHANNON BEIRNE WIESEDEPPE ’90 is an outstanding representative of an Academy Woman. She recently served as the 93rd president of The Junior League of Houston, Inc., an organization of over 5,000 women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Shannon earned her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Southern Methodist University. She is a Class Agent for the class of 1990, and she and her husband, Bud, have two children, Finely and Brink. Shannon’s mother, Charla Ward Trader ’64, received the Veritas Award in 2011, making Shannon our first legacy recipient!

MADELINE BURNS ’09 uses her career to help people around the world, and is truly living Veritas. This past year she spent 10 weeks as a volunteer ward nurse on a Mercy Ship - the Africa Mercy - docked in Cotonou, Benin. Mercy Ships is a non-profit organization that operates the largest nongovernmental hospital ship in the world. The ship docks in various countries along the coast of Africa, for nine months at a time, and provides life-saving surgeries and medical care to children and adults. The ship is operated by nearly 400 volunteers, including doctors, nurses, physical therapists, electricians, engineers, plumbers, chaplains, chefs, and pharmacists. Volunteers come from all over the world and serve various lengths of time, and because the ship can dock for nine months, patients can obtain follow-up care and participate in therapies to optimize their healing. As a ward nurse, Madeline built relationships with patients and their families. She says it was amazing to see first-hand the transformation patients underwent after their surgeries, and it was an experience that has not only strengthened her desire to serve those in need, but reaffirmed her desire to work as a nurse and provide medical care to deserving patients. Madeline currently works at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul, Minnesota on the Neuroscience Unit as a Pediatric Registered Nurse.

The St. Agnes Academy Alumnae Veritas Award and is given to an alumna that exhibits outstanding dedication to, support for, and love of St. Agnes, and is an outstanding representative of an Academy Woman to the community.

The SAYPO (St. Agnes Young Professionals Organization) Award recognizes an individual who is pursuing excellence in their career, and representing St. Agnes well in the community.

Registering here also registers you to attend the Reunion, following the Awards presentation.
