2017 AFCs Annual San Juan Fall Fishing Trip & Banquet
Event Information
Description
Change of dates for October San Juan Outing:
Due to a change in venue the annual October San Juan Outing has been moved to October 28, 29, 30 and 31st. (Four nights.)
We have reserved rooms and a breakfast buffet and Liars’ Banquet with Fisheads San Juan River Lodge. We secured 13 rooms for two people and two rooms for three people and a house which can sleep up to six people. The estimated cost for room and meals is $323.00. More information to follow once details are finalized.
If you are camping or making other lodging accomodations, the cost is $80, which includes the breakfasts and banquet. You will need to make your own arrangements with your camper or other room accomodation.
Additional cost are, to buy a separate $5 per day parking permit because the river is located in a state park. Permits can be purchased at any of the major parking areas. It is usually a good idea to purchase 5 permits for $25 dollars on the first day so you don’t have to worry about purchasing a permit each day.
IMPORTANT NOTE!! In addition a New Mexico Fishing License is required. The New Mexico Fishing license is NOT included in the price. This is to accomodate those that have purchased or want to purchase an annual license. Cost for a 5 day license is $24 plus 2 stamps and processing. Total cost $34. An Annual license is $56 plus stamps, totaling $66. Once you have signed up for trip a link will take you to the New Mexico License System to purchase the license online. This is a good option so you can save the license in PDF format for reprint. Especially useful if you opt for the annual license.
Remember to debarb your hooks! The rangers sometimes randomly check anglers.

Our club has many members who have fished the river. Utilize your fellow members and their advice if you need help on the water. The river can be quite technical, as the fish see thousands of flies.
A typical AFC day goes something like this:
-
At 06:30 hours, we start with the breakfast buffet, share some company, plan our day, and then make our way to the various access points on the river.
-
Lunch is on your own. Bring your lunch to the river or go back to Abe’s. If you are like me and some of the other members, you will bring a lunch and stay out all day.
-
At the end of the day, most of the members like to fish around the area of the river known as Texas Hole. At dark, we go back to the rooms. Some members cook or barbeque outside their rooms, others head to the restaurants. We share stories about the day and get ready for the next day on the water.
It is also recommended that you attend the pre-trip meeting at the Sunnyslope Community Center on October 11th at 7:00 PM. We will discuss several topics, including preparation and techniques to use on the river. Even if you cannot make the outing, this is a good meeting to attend to obtain information on the river and fishing moving water.
This will be a fantastic fall fishing trip. Don’t miss this opportunity to fish a high quality water. If you have any questions, please contact trip host Phil Koda (outings@azflycasters).
