Workshop Descriptions

(1) Key Competences for Great Administrative Professionals

Irrespective of the agency, department, division, work function or position, this class will cover key competencies which are specific behaviors and skills that are generally relevant to all administrative support positions. Adapted from research into other government jurisdictions, industry research, focus groups including administrative support professionals at all responsibility levels as well as management personnel, the competencies discussed this session have been identified as key to success.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • Identify key competencies for Administrative support roles
  • Develop a strategy for better organization and efficiency
  • Analyze their professional appearance and attitude and make adjustments where necessary
  • Establish guidelines for filtering and dealing with office politics and confidentiality
  • Determine areas for improvement and develop strategies for success


(2) Excel Shortcuts

Excel is a powerful resource in the Administrative Professionals tool kit. This session will teach you shortcuts, function keys, and some other common Excel task keys to help you become more efficient and produce dynamic reports.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • Know the frequently used Excel shortcuts
  • Understand the ribbon’s keyboard shortcut menu
  • Navigate within and format cells
  • Make selections and perform actions using the keyboard shortcuts
  • Work with data, functions, and the formula bar

(3) Microsoft Outlook Tips & Tricks

This course is a hands-on, advanced overview of utilities and tools that are commonly underutilized within Microsoft Outlook. This course is designed for people with a basic understanding of Microsoft Outlook, who wish to improve their performance and increase productivity.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course participants will:

  • Learn how to recall sent messages from recipients
  • Create and assign recurring tasks
  • Set parameters and utilize the Clean Up function
  • Explore and customize the Quick Access Tool Bar
  • Create customized Quick Steps for contacts, appointments, and folders

(4) Networking 101

You’ve heard the term “networking” but what does that mean to an Administrative Professional? Part of your job is to greet guests, help host events, and work with other agency representatives. This class will show you the best practices for handling those moments when you may be out of your comfort zone.

  • Know how to network and mingle with the best
