2017-2018 Schedule

October 21, 2017 – Jon Pearson

Draw Out The Best In Your Students: The Art of Student Engagement

Discover how to engage your students with techniques that mimic how the brain actually thinks. See how students can picture their thinking and double their learning across the curriculum. Find how students can learn anything faster and retain it longer with teaching methods that tap your students’ deepest levels of motivation.

November 18, 2017 – Bob Lenz

It’s a Project Based World

Students are entering a world where their ability to collaborate, communicate effectively and manage projects is increasingly important. This session will demonstrate why Project Based Learning should play a greater role in instructional design and student engagement. This interactive session will highlight strategies to begin (or deepen) teachers’ PBL practice.

January 20, 2018 – Dr. Carol Ann Tomlinson

Quality Differentiation in Action

Most educators are keenly aware of the varied learning needs of students in their classes. Far fewer teachers, however, create classrooms that are proactively designed to address learner readiness, interest, and approach to learning. Explore the key elements of quality differentiation by looking at video footage and lessons from classrooms in which learning environments, classroom routines, curriculum, assessment, and instruction work together to meet students where they are and move them forward as efficiently and effectively as possible.

March 3, 2018 – Martha Kaufeldt

Begin with the Brain: Four Things Every Educator Needs to Know

Educational neuroscience is a hot topic! Recent research about how students’ brains grow, develop and respond to the environment can influence our classroom practices and how we interact with students. Understanding a summary of four “brain basics” can give educators guidelines that will help them design brain-friendly classrooms.

April 21, 2018 – Dr. Pedro Noguera

Excellence Through Equity

While the movement for standards and accountability has largely succeeded in bringing greater attention to

disparities in student achievement, surprisingly little attention has been given to what it takes to create conditions in schools that will make achievement for all students more likely. How to place equity at the center of education

reform, and support effective teaching in schools. This presentation will show why the path to excellence is through equity and what we can do to make it happen.

May 12, 2018 – Action Research Conference

Over 40 presentations to choose from by administrators, counselors, and teacher leaders sharing practical and cutting-edge strategies that are working in classrooms and schools across the Bay Area
