Volunteer attorneys are needed to assist qualifying individuals with the expungement process during this one day event on September 24, 2016. The expungement legal clinic is part of the Community Re-entry & Expungement Summit organized by Clean Slate Milwaukee, Inc. with support from the State Bar of Wisconsin's Pro Bono Program. You will be meeting with individuals who believe that they may be eligible for expungement of a criminal record. There are opportunities in the morning and in the afternoon for volunteer attorneys. The overall summit begins at 9 am but the legal clinic breakout session for attendees to meet with attorneys begins at 10 am.
Clean Slate Milwaukee is a "second chance" Re Entry organization that specializes in expungement of criminal records as an effort to promote equal opportunity to employment housing and higher education.
How much experience is needed and will training be provided?
You do not need to be a criminal defense attorney to volunteer at this event. It would help to have some knowledge of criminal law process but we will provided you with resources to help you understand and communicate the legal requirements for expungement of a criminal record in Wisconsin. A basic overview of expungement law in Wisconsin is set out here and additional material will be available onsite.
What are my parking options at the event?
Ample free parking is available in the parking lot at the event.
