The Open Hands Foundation:
The Open Hands Foundation, located in Excelsior, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that exists to meet the unmet critical needs of vulnerable people in the Twin Cities Southwest Metro Area. Currently they are supporting the Bridge for Youth - Southwest; a shelter for homeless youth, after discovering that between 10,000 and 12,000 young people under 18 in Minnesota have experienced at least one episode of homelessness on their own. On any given night, 2,500 of them don’t sleep at home (Wilder Research Center, “Homelessness in Minnesota 2006”). The money raised from Taste of the Lake will go to helping youth get off the street, into safe shelter, and on to a better life.
