2016 Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Americans: Embracing, Enriching, and Enabling America

Student Forum

In observance of 2016 Hispanic Heritage Month, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Hispanic/Latino Employee Resource Group, Adelante, will be hosting a student forum in partnership with:

  • National Association of Hispanic Employees (NAHE)- U.S. Department of Interior

  • Hispanic Employees Council of Foreign Affairs Agencies (HECFAA)- U.S. Department of State

  • Prospanica DC (Formerly National Society of Hispanic of MBA DC)

In support of OPM’s mission to Recruit, Retain and Honor a World-Class Workforce to Serve the American People, this forum is designed to raise awareness about the opportunities that exist in the Federal workforce. The forum will include:

  • 9:00 a.m.- 9:15 a.m.- Opening remarks by OPM’s Acting Director Beth Cobert

  • 9:20 a.m.- 9:35 a.m.- Keynote speaker, Alejandra Ceja, Executive Director, White House Initative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics

  • 9:35 a.m.- 10:00 a.m.- Federal Senior Leaders Panel

  • 10:25 a.m.- 11:25 a.m.- Flash presentations

    • Pathways Program, Federal resume writing, and USAJobs

    • How to use social media to build your career

  • 11:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m.- Mini career fair & resume critique sessions *in-person only*

WHO CAN ATTEND? The forum will be open to current college students (undergraduate and graduate) for in-person OR virtual participation.

TIME: In-person attendance- 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (EDT)

Virtual attendance- 9:00 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. (EDT)

Note: Please allow yourself enough time for traffic conditions, unexpected delays and the OPM building security screening – where all guests will be required to present a valid, government-issued photo identification. Upon arrival, attendees with a valid federal or state issued photo identification card (driver's license, non-drivers license, passport, etc.) must enter the building through the E Street Visitor Entrance, where they will undergo a security screening. Students with a valid school issued photo ID will also be granted access into the building for this event.
