The award-winning play The Vagina Monologues is based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler’s interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace the piece celebrates women’s sexuality and strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives over the last 18 years that the play has been performed.
V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions such as this show and other artistic works. These V-Day benefit events organized by volunteer activists take place around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls.
The One Billion Rising campaign, a partner with V-Day, began in 2012 as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.
This special benefit performance is presented this year as part of V-Day’s campaign ONE BILLION RISING: REVOLUTION, a global initiative that began three years ago as a call for women survivors of violence to Rise and demand an end to violence. In 2016, Risings will focus on highlighting, creating and envisioning new, brave and radical artistic initiatives to bring in the new revolutionary world of equality, dignity and freedom for all women and girls.
Join us on V-Day and during the month of February to show your support for women and girls. Through your actions, financial support, and enduring advocacy, come be a part of this inspiring campaign for equality!
The primary proceeds of the event will benefit Peaceful Paths Domestic Abuse Network, whom this year is also sponsoring Wild Iris Bookstore.
