Austin Talent Forum's End of the Year Event!
2016 Employment Law Update: Are You in Compliance?
♢ ♢ ♢
Hosted by Austin Talent Forum, DLA Piper NEST Program, & American Bank
2016 has been a busy year for the HR community. For its final 2016 event, Austin Talent Forum is pleased to provide its members with a free lunch-and-learn hosted by DLA Piper and American Bank, featuring an expert panel discussion on the numerous changes in federal, state, and local employment laws affecting the workplace.
This panel will be moderated by Paul Hurdlow, Co-Chair, Emerging Growth & Venture Capital (DLA Piper) and will feature trade secret litigator Jennifer Lloyd (Miller Lloyd), immigration counsel Nicole Merritt (ALG), and employment attorney Amy Beckstead (Beckstead Terry).
The panel will discuss compliance tips on implementing the new overtime rules (including a how-to guide for paying commissioned, exempt employees), the new onerous changes in EEO-1 reporting requirements, the federal Defend Trade Secrets Act of 2016, and immigration law changes on the horizon, given the new presidential administration. The panel will also discuss employment law trends sweeping the nation, including paid sick leave, tightening of non-compete restrictions, "ban the box" laws (such as Austin's new Fair Chance Hiring Ordinance), and new gender discrimination laws, topics especially important for multi-state employers.
A special thanks to DLA Piper's NEST Program for hosting the space and beverages, American Bank for sponsoring lunch, and to Paul, Meghan, Mehron, and Amy for leading the discussion.
For our attorney attendees, this program has been submitted for Minimum Continuing Legal Education credit by the State Bar of Texas in the amount of 1.0 hour.
