There are 5 (five) basic elements that make for a successful Sports Action Photograph; that is a photograph that shows interest, balance, solid focus, captures peak action or reaction and emotion to hold the viewer’s attention. These elements independently can make for solid images, but when the elements are employed in combination or in unison, the resulting imagery becomes more powerful and the strength of the images shows through.
The Elite Motorsports Photography Workshop is designed to teach the techniques, philosophy and approach for photographers to produce premium motorsports images that can be proudly printed and/or displayed anywhere. The workshop is intended for intermediate photographers that are new or inexperienced in capturing premium motorsports action. Photographers should own or have access to a DSLR and, at minimum, a medium telephoto lens (i.e. 70-200 mm zoom or equivalent). Use of longer focal lengths is beneficial. Students must have working knowledge of basic camera functions. This is not a basic camera class. Students are expected to have a working knowledge of photography basics. The instructors will focus on helping students maximize their camera’s capabilities and applying those capabilities to capture premium race images. Friday and Saturday evenings will be devoted to image review, critique, problem identification and solutions. In addition, Saturday evening will include a primer on utilizing Adobe Lightroom to enhance your best images.
Workshop will be conducted during the United States Grand Prix (Formula 1 Race) weekend October 20-23, 2016. Hands on instruction will take place at the Circuit of the Americas – Austin, Texas. This is a workshop for the “common man”. Few photographers will ever be granted press level access to photograph professional motorsports from “in between the fences”, instructors will teach techniques that will enable students to get premium images from any accessible vantage point.
Workshop fee includes:
• A maximum 8 to 1 student to instructor ratio.

Tim Hill, C.P.P. is an award winning Certified Professional Photographer with over 30 years of experience. As a C.P.P., Tim is in select group of only 7-9% of all photographers to be certified nationally. He has had his sports action work published in local magazines and has had his work published on the cover of the magazine devoted to sports and event photographers (SEP). Tim has successfully photographed motorsport events from air races to carts to Formula 1 races. He is an F1 enthusiast, and regularly sets his alarm clock to watch all of the overseas races live, even if they are shown in the wee hours of the morning. In addition to motorsports. Tim’s sense of motion, emotion, timing and control of light have been his platform for producing some of the finest sports portraits and sports action photography images found anywhere.
Chris Baylor is a commercial portrait and sports photographer based in Dallas, Texas. From 2010 to 2013, Chris’ images represented the athletic department at Texas A&M University at Commerce. Some of Chris’s clients include Division 1 University athletic programs including The University of Texas, The University of Houston, Southern Methodist University (SMU), The University of Miami and the University of Nevada Las Vegas to name a few. Chris started his photography business in 2007, but has found his true passion for motorsport photography which has led to national and international published Formula 1 and MotoGP motorsport images. After serving his country in the United States Navy, Chris went on to start a family and earn his degree in Commercial Photography from Texas A&M University at Commerce. These days, in addition to client work, Chris is found photographing his own young athletes from Cross Country to Club Soccer.
