Dr. Bettie Ray Butler, Assistant Professor of Urban Education and the Director of the Urban Education Collaborative Student Discipline Joint Task Force (SDJTF), along with, UNC Charlotte's Urban Education Doctoral Students (presently enrolled in EDCI 8312: Urban Schooling, Curriculum, and Pedagogy Seminar), will host the 2016 Culturally Relevant Arts Education for Social Justice Symposium. Select doctoral students will have an opportunity to present and showcase their arts-based curriculum program/project in which they have designed over the course of the 16-week fall semester. One (1) program/project will be selected for funding by Valoria Burch, Principal of Turning Point Academy and her administrative team, and the recipient[s] of the funded program/project will, in turn, be awarded the Valoria B. Burch Grant for Curriculum Innovation in Alternative Education. The funded program/project is scheduled for implementation in 2017 at Turning Point Academy (CMS).
