Come and hear the sharing from school principals, university professors, education experts and top students! We are delighted to inform you that our 9th Annual Education Day will be held on October 29, 2016 at a secondary school, 100 Princess Avenue, North York, ON M2N 3R7.
CPAC’s Education Day helps immigrant families understand the education system in North America and helps to prepare current and future students for their academic future. The event guides parents to make informed decisions through the help of exhibitors and experienced speakers.
The 9th CPAC Education Day Features:
- Keynote presentation: Student Success in Today's Colleges and Universities
Keynote speaker: Dr. Kim Fedderson, the Principal of Lakehead University (Orillia)
Dr. Fedderson will explore the changing post-secondary environment and what parents and students can do to promote student success. Dr. Fedderson has served as Lakehead Orillia’s Principal since the school’s opening and has over 30 years experience as a professor and university and college administrator. His research work is focused on post-secondary pedagogy and cultural studies.
- Four breakout session seminars:
1. High-Proficiency Studying: Advice from Top Students
Speakers: Monica Xu, Ontario Top Scholar 2016; Michael Xie, 2015 CPAC Scholarship recipient
2. Choosing Schools and Programs
Speaker： Shouyi Ma, CEO and Principal at Hanson Canada. He is a graduate of both Liaoning University and University of Toronto – Rotman School of Management and has won the Chinese Excellence Award - 2015 Person of the year.
3. Interest based Education and Career Planning
Speaker： Becky Robinson, Career Counsellor at Centennial College’s Career Services & Co-operative Education. She holds a Master of Counselling degree and a Career Development Practitioner certificate.
4. How to Apply for a Medical School
Speaker: Peter, Peizhong Wang, MD, MPH (Tianjin Medical University), PhD (University of Toronto), Professor of Epidemiology, University of Newfoundland (MUN)
- Exhibitors' mini info sessions: CPAC Education Day is a conference and exhibition where many colleges, universities and education-related service providers will be present, offering ample opportunities for participants to learn everything they want to know about Canadian education. Founded in 1999, the CPAC Foundation (formerly Education Foundation of CPAC) is a registered charity that raises funds in support of CPAC’s work within the immigrant community and also the Foundation’s own education related initiatives.
The Foundation has supported and continues to support CPAC in carrying out its mission of helping internationally trained professionals and tradespeople to obtain licenses, find jobs, advance their careers, develop leadership skills and integrate into the Canadian society.
For its own initiatives, the Foundation organizes activities that provide educational information to parents and students. It also provides scholarships and bursaries to secondary and post-secondary students who have demonstrated a social responsibility as well as a determination to pursue academic excellence.
Since 2000, the CPAC Foundation has given out 206 scholarships and bursaries with a total value of $246,000. It has also built two schools in poverty and disaster stricken areas in China.
