Join Alexandria's Historic Breweries author, Garrett Peck, and Portner Brewhouse Co-Founder, Cat Portner, on a guided walking tour around Old Town Alexandria exploring the foundations of local brewing. The tour includes highlights from the print brouchure, a Portner Brewhouse sponsored beer sampling and culminates at one of Alexandria's current Hop Stops.
Each tour will feature local homebrewers that are interested in your feedback and a precursor to Portner Brewhouse's Craft Beer Test Kitchen. The homebrewers will be updated below as confirmed.
Nov 6: Featured Homebrewer: Matthew Becker
This IPA doesn’t come across very sugary on your tongue, but it’s pretty sweet since it’s an awesome IPA and it uses a few pounds of honey. Chinook hops provide the bittering with Fuggle hops adding some additional flavor and aroma. ~6.7% ABV
Matt’s Pumpkin Ale
Fall brings on a desire in most people to consume pumpkins, and what better way to do this then in beer! Over 6 pounds of sugar pie pumpkin meat in the 5-gallon batch helps to make this festive ale heavy on the pumpkin and light on the spices. ~6.8% ABV
Brewed in honor of my Father-in-law, I tried to replicate something that I felt the original Marines may have drank in the Tun Tavern. With hops and malt being hard to come by at times in our history, this old ale uses blackstrap molasses to supplement the malt and spruce essence to assist the hops. This beer is freedom in your mouth, OOH RAH! ~6.7% ABV
