2015 #techLA #ImmigrationHack: Community Hackathon & Training
Event Information
Description
Los Angeles is a City of Immigrants! We estimate that more than 500,000 individuals will be eligible for programs under President Obama’s executive action, namely the extension of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and the Deferred Action for Parents (DAPA). Countless other high skilled workers, foreign entrepreneurs, STEM graduates and foreign workers will also be granted opportunities to be a part of growing our economy. Given the significant potential and the complexity of immigrating and integrating into local communities, organizations and individuals in the community are stepping up to help!
#techLA is a city-wide initiative to engage the technology community in civic innovation, featuring monthly events, a technology challenge, and many opportunities to strengthen L.A.
On July 19, 2015 the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti, in partnership with the Los Angeles Public Library, The Mayor's Office of Immigration, FWD.us, The California Endowment, and Civic Innovation Lab, will be hosting an #ImmigrationHack at the Los Angeles Central Public Library.
This event is part of #techLA's summer-long competition Challenge:LA that encourages Angelenos to address some of the city’s most pressing issues. It's time to take advantage of citizen-generated solutions. We invite all Los Angeles citizens – technologists, designers, data scientists, public servants, and other community members – to participate in these events and find solutions around areas of public need.
All are welcome to Hack, Learn and Play with different kinds of solutions (tech or non) that:
- Support the integration of new Angelenos into the community
- Facilitate citizen engagement via local civic participation
- Drive new economic activity by helping entrepreneurs launch local small businesses
