Event Details

The Peninsula Chicken Keepers Tour de Coop is a self-guided tour of backyard chicken coops in Hampton, Newport News, and York County, VA.

General information

  • Hosts on the Virginia Peninsula invite you to learn from their personal experiences with keeping backyard chickens!
  • Visit hosts' yards and coops, ask questions, and take photos.
  • This is a free, self-guided tour, but pre-registration is requested.
  • Visitors are requested to bring a donation of canned goods for the Food Closet housed at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, to be dropped off at any tour stop.
  • Tour stops are open for either morning (9:00-noon) or afternoon (noon-3:00) visits; you may visit as many coops as you can fit in!
  • A schedule, map, and tour stop descriptions will be emailed to registrants during the week prior to the tour; please consult the map and coop descriptions to plan your visits.
  • Tour will be held rain or shine.

Tour Guidelines

  • Please respect the privacy of tour hosts by visiting only on the day and during the hours listed on the schedule.
  • Children supervised by adults are welcome on the tour. Children should not chase chickens or hosts!
  • DO NOT BRING DOGS or other pets.
  • Shoe covers will be provided at the entrance to each yard, to protect the health of the chickens. Leave the shoe covers for re-use at the same location.
  • If a yard is full when you arrive, you may be asked to wait momentarily until previous visitors exit.
  • Restrooms, drinking water, and snacks are not provided on the tour -- please plan accordingly and bring what you need with you.
