Event Details

The Inland Empire Economic Partnership’s Annual State of the Region Conference is approaching once again. Dr. John Husing, Chief Economist of IEEP, will be presenting on April 17th, 2014.

Dr. Husing will be joined by experts commenting on the three significant sectors that propel the job recovery in the near future.  The conference will include an overall job forecast as well as in depth analysis of these sector’s performance in 2014.

Health care is the one Inland Empire's sectors that maintained growth straight through the Great Recession as the health care providers expanded to try and keep up with the area's rapid population growth.  It is significant to our region because to date, the health sector has more people per healthcare provider than the state average and that will be exacerbated with the addition of thousands of newly insured families. This sector will thus be a source of continued job growth.

In our region, the economic engine historically has been in the construction sector.  As Southern California's economy moves deeper into recovery, the pent-up demand for housing will again stimulate the region's residential real estate market.  Already, home prices in the coastal counties have moved beyond the reach of most families. The result will be the re-emergence of job growth in the Inland Empire's home construction sector.

With port containers volumes continuing to rise and the advent of large fulfillment centers like Amazon.com, logistics has become the star of the Inland Empire's economy adding more jobs since 2000 than any other sector.  As the region has almost all of Southern California's remaining undeveloped land, it will continue to rapidly add jobs.

The Guest Speakers will be:

Debbie Freund, Ph.D., President of Claremont Graduate University, a health research economist.

Steve Rufner, Southern California President of KB Homes.
