2014 March Passport Program - Lehigh Valley Wine Trail
Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 10:00 AM - Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 5:00 PM (EST)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
The wine enthusiast knows that March means touring the eight wineries along the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail for a month of food and wine pairings and wine education.
The March Passport Program along the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail involves purchasing a passport for $35 and visiting each of the wineries during the first four weekends in March (3/1 & 2; 3/8 & 9; 3/15 & 16; and 3/22 & 23). Event hours at each winery are: Saturday - 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday - noon - 5 p.m.
As you visit our eight wineries you will receive delicious wine and food pairings (tasting sized) to sample. Review the list of food and wine pairings here. Your passport will be stamped at each winery. Once your passport has been stamped at seven of the eight member wineries, fill out your contact information at the bottom of the passport and turn it in at the last winery you visit in order to be entered to win one of 30 $25 Lehigh Valley Wine Trail gift certificates. (Visit our web site for the list of our eight member wineries.)
Each passport holder will also receive a Lehigh Valley Wine Trail gift. The 2014 gift is a set of logoed slate coasters (see example on the right) - collect one from each member winery for a complete set of 8. It is recommended that you plan to visit no more than three wineries a day so you can get the most enjoyment out of your experience without being rushed. Plan to stop at a local restaurant along the way. A limited number of passports are printed, so get them early while they last since they sell out every year!
We strongly recommend that a member of your group serve as its designated driver to allow you to travel safely from winery to winery.
Since our wineries are all family-owned and operated, we each have our own set of house rules. So please check with individual wineries if you have any questions about their policies. We look forward to meeting you on the trail!
ONLINE PASSPORT SALES END TUESDAY 2/25 at 3 PM. AFTER THAT DATE ANY REMAINING PASSPORTS CAN BE PURCHASED IN-PERSON AT OUR 8 MEMBER WINERIES UNTIL SUPPLIES RUN OUT.
In order to improve the experience for all of our event passport holders, the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail has Group Guidelines for this event. Our eight wineries will not accept commercial vehicles of any type (buses, limos, vans, etc.) during March. If you are traveling by private passenger vehicle in a group of 8 or more, appointments are required at any wineries you plan to visit. Please call ahead to the wineries on your route to make those arrangements at least three days in advance. Thank you.
How the March Passport Program works:
- Purchase a passport for $35, either in person at one of our 8 member wineries, or online here. (Passport program participants must be age 21 or older.)
- During the first four weekends of March 2014 (Saturdays and Sundays), visit our member wineries to enjoy a food and wine pairing (tasting sized) and have your passport stamped in the corresponding winery box on the front. Be sure to pick up a logoed slate coaster from each winery since it is the 2014 gift for passport holders. Visit all 8 wineries to collect the complete set.
- Get stamps from at least 7 of our 8 wineries before filling out your contact information on the bottom of the front side of the passport.
- Turn in your completed passport at the last winery you visit to be entered to win one of 30 $25 wine trail gift certificates in the Grand Prize Drawing. The drawing takes place 4/15/13. Winners will be notified by mail and their names posted to our web site.
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to participate in the event?
All passport holders must be age 21 or older to receive wine and food pairings and may be be asked to provide legal proof of age at each winery.
What are my parking options at the wineries?
Each winery has its own parking area but due to the increased activity on event weekends, parking may be more difficult to find, so please be patient.
What is the refund policy?
Sorry, but we do not offer refunds for purchased passports.
When will my order be sent out?
Orders will be mailed out via USPS First Class Mail on Friday 2/21 at 3 p.m. and again on Tuesday 2/25 at 3 p.m. No online orders will be taken or can be placed after 2/25 at 3 pm. You can purchase passports in person at one of our 8 member wineries after 2/25 (cash or check only, please).
Can I get my passport stamped and enjoy food and wine pairings during the week?
The pasport program is a weekends-only event and has always been structured this way since it began over a decade ago. Our wineries will not be able to stamp your passport on weekdays and will not have food and wine pairings avaialble for you to sample at that time either.
When & Where
Lehigh Valley Wine Trail
The Lehigh Valley Wine Trail is a non-profit organization of wineries whose mission is to promote agri-tourism and to create a premiere wine destination and grape growing region while promoting Pennsylvania wines from the region. All of the member wineries have won numerous awards at state, national and international levels.
The Lehigh Valley region is an official American Viticultural Area as designated by the Federal Alcohol Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau in April 2008. The Lehigh Valley AVA includes portions of Lehigh, Northampton, Berks, Schuylkill, Carbon and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania. In order to receive the designation a least 85% of the grapes used to make local wines must be grown within the region. Wineries in the region are permitted to list “Lehigh Valley” as the growing region on their labels.
