Social Business & Entrepreneurship
Speaker: Martin Loeffler, Director, CSUCI, California Institute for Social Business
The lines that once distinguished nonprofit and for-profit enterprise are becoming more and more blurred, with efforts underway globally to promote capitalism and businesses that achieve both social and financial objectives. Join us at the first of the 2014 VCCF Community Leadership Series and deepen our understanding of social business and the role it plays in our local economy. We are proud to welcome Martin Loeffler, Director of the California Institute of Social Business at CSUCI who will address how business, while being financially self-sustainable, can address important social issues – without relying on donations in the long run.

Engaging the Millennial Generation in Philanthropy
Speaker: Jeff Miller, CEO of Leading Now
Understanding what motivates and connects young people to philanthropy and causes that matter is critical to long term sustainability of the nonprofit sector. As donors, the next generation will shape the very nature of philanthropy and will address society’s most pressing issues. Is philanthropy ready? Are our board’s ready? How do we promote and support a culture of youth participation within our organizations? What metrics might donors use when assessing an organization’s engagement of youth?
For this Community Leadership Series luncheon, we welcome Jeff Miller of Leading Now to address the concept of youth participation and explore the benefits to organizations, communities and young people themselves.
