Event Details

Acterra and SunWork invite you to take a self-guided tour of eight local homes, including a newly built Zero Net Energy house and several passive designed homes. At each house, you can speak to the owners about the various methods they use to reduce their energy bills. In addition, there will be many all-electric and plug-in vehicles to check out!

*Donation requested at registration, $10 each or $15 for a family

Here's the schedule:

10:00 — Registration - Lucy Stern Community Center

Open House at EcoHome - behind Lucy Stern Community Center (until 3 pm)

              Electric Vehicles on display

10:30 - 12:00 noon — Info Session (maps distributed at end of session)

12:15 — Maps Distributed at Registration Table (maps distributed at registration table until 2:30)

12:30 - 1:45 pm — Info Session (same info discussed as earlier)

1:00 - 5:00 — Tour Homes Open - Palo Alto area

The info session will cover what a “net-zero energy home” means as well as how solar electric (photovoltaic) systems work, the financial and environmental benefits, and how to pursue a project for your own home. Learn about the City of Palo Alto's PV rebate program and how to take advantage of Federal solar tax credits. To maximize your benefit from the session, participants are encouraged to bring your average monthly e;ectricity cost to the workshop.

Free copies of the Solar Energy Resource Guide (8th edition) will be available as well (quantities limited). The 9th edition will be available for purchase.

**Starting in 2020, a new California law will require all new residential construction in California to be net-zero energy, so those considering a new house will want to learn about energy efficiency technologies to help achieve that goal.

This tour is part of the American Solar Energy Society's National Solar Tour and co-sponsored by NorCal Solar Association, the Sierra Club, Loma Prieta Chapter and Build It Green.
