Need Community Service hours for school or just want to get out and help clean up our communities? Join Vice Mayor Madison Nguyen on Saturday, April 20th from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Seven Trees Community Center, (3590 Cas Drive) for the 2013 Great American Litter Pick Up! Help make our city a safer and cleaner place to live. This is a citywide annual event hosted by Mayor Chuck Reed, Council District Offices, and the Anti-Litter department. Every year, hundreds of volunteers and community members come out to help pick up litter in our neighborhoods. By picking up litter in our city, we improve the environment while also contributing to the quality of life in our neighborhoods. To participate in this year's Litter Pick Up, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We hope to see you there! Litter clean up supplies--gloves, pick-up sticks, safety vests, trash, and recycling bags will be provided along with refreshments and free lunch provided by McDonalds for all volunteers.
No need to bring anything to the event, just comfortable cleanup clothing!

Office of Vice Mayor Madison Nguyen
Madison Nguyen was elected to the San Jose City Council in 2005, the first Vietnamese American to serve on the city council of any major metropolitan city in the United States. On January 25, 2011, Nguyen was appointed by the Mayor and City Council to serve as San Jose’s first Vietnamese American Vice Mayor.
Over the past five years, Vice Mayor Nguyen has made significant progress on some of the most pressing issues that affect the city including affordable housing, economic development, public safety, and transportation. She strives to make the City of San Jose a safe and healthy place to live, work, and play.
Vice Mayor Nguyen currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Public Safety, Finance and Strategic Support Committee; Vice Chair of the Rules and Open Government Committee, Vice Chair of the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Treatment Plant Advisory Committee, Member of the Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force, Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Policy Advisory Board (BART), Housing and Community Development Advisory Committee as well as other key commissions and committees.
Prior to her election to the San Jose City Council, Madison served as the President of the Franklin-McKinley Board of Education. In addition, she worked as the Associate Ombudsperson for the Santa Clara County Office of Human Relations.
Born in Vietnam, Madison Nguyen and her family immigrated to the United States in the early 1980's. She received her Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and her Masters Degree in Social Science from the University of Chicago.
In her capacity as Vice Mayor of San Jose, she is considered to be one of the highest ranking elected officials of Vietnamese background in the United States.
