Event Details

REGISRATION IS NOW CLOSED

This course prepares the individual to participate in wildland fire management/fire suppression activities as a Firefighter Type II qualified fire crew.
Prior to the in-person training, participants must complete the I-100 course online (2-4 hours of training) and bring proof of completion on August 12.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday will be classroom instruction at the Waccasassa Forestry Center in Gainesville; Thursday will be an all-day field exercise at Ordway-Swisher Biological Station.

 

What to bring:

Classroom training:

I-100 completion certificate (http://training.nwcg.gov/courses/i100.html)
Lunch (lunch is only provided on Thursday August 15 during the live fire exercise)

Field Training:

6 inch or higher leather boots
Leather gloves
PPE (optional)

Natural Areas Training Academy, UF IFAS Extension

The Natural Areas Training Academy (NATA) conducts workshops on sustainable management of natural areas in the Southeastern US.  Workshops are taught by working natural resource professionals to other professionals in the natural resources field and anyone else interested in furthering their understanding of sustainable land managment, including site assessment, managing for diversity, prescribed burning, planning for visitors and volunteers, and collaboration.
