Theme and Emphasis:
This meeting aims to offer a fresh perspective on the interprofessional issue, focusing on how highly-functioning interprofessional teams are transforming the delivery of healthcare. Our goal is to examine these teams and build future education models around what is being successfully implemented in the clinical arena.
Additionally, the program will draw on the recommendations of The Lancet commission report, Health Professionals for a New Century: Transforming Education to Strengthen Health Systems in an Interdependent World, advocating for system-wide changes in healthcare delivery. We hope to foster the development of process and care competencies that are needed to coordinate and deliver effective healthcare.
The program will begin with a brief welcome and introduction by Afaf I. Meleis, PhD, DrPS(hon), FAAN, Dean of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, and Steven Wartman, MD, PhD, President and CEO of the Association of Academic Health Centers.
The keynote address will be delivered by Jordan J. Cohen, MD, President Emeritus of the Association of American Medical Colleges.
Interactive content sessions comprised of teams in both education and practice will follow, with time for discussion and audience Q&A.
Larry Jameson, MD, PhD, Dean of the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine will provide a summary and wrap-up.
