June 18-20

Jahajee Sisters is proud to present our fourth Indo-Caribbean Women's Empowerment Summit, a call to solidarity and sisterhood among women of Indo-Caribbean heritage!


Join us June 18th-20th for three days of workshops and presentations from scholars, artists, activists, and community leaders.

This year’s summit strives to build a stronger community as we explore the history of Indo-Caribbean women, discuss the issues we are facing today, and create a vision for our future. Topics will include gender-based oppression, healthy relationships, immigrants' rights, domestic workers' rights, housing rights, and more.


Featured Speakers: Professor Patricia Mohammed of the University of the West Indies, Journalist Gaiutra Bahadur, The Rajkumari Cultural Center, Sakhi for South Asian Women, Domestic Workers United, Third Wave Foundation, Chhaya CDC, and more.

Day 1:
Engendering Sisterhood- Panel and Cultural Show
Friday, June 18, 6pm-10 pm @
Queens Museum of Art
Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Flushing, NY 11368 *Open to women & men

     A panel on Indo-Caribbean women’s history, empowerment, and movement-building, followed by a cultural reception featuring song, dance, and poetry.

Day 2:
Pieces of the Movement- Workshops
Saturday, June 19, 10am-5pm @
Krystal Hall
124-12 101 Avenue, Richmond Hill, NY 11419 *Women only
 
A day of personal development, confronting social justice issues affecting women and the Indo-Caribbean community, and learning about important work being done to create change.


Day 3:

Identity and the Future of Indo-Caribbean Women- Workshops

Sunday, June 20, 11am-3pm @
United Hindu Cultural Council Senior Center
118-09 Sutter Avenue, South Ozone Park, NY 11420 *Women only

An intergenerational dialogue, incorporating the arts, on cultural equity and what it means to be an Indo-Caribbean woman.

This event is completely free and donations are encouraged.
