A Yoga Training for the Adventurous at Heart!

Join Devata Active and Melanie Cherney on the tranquil island of Bali where serenity is honored each step you take on your journey to self-discovery! Our foundational Yoga Teacher Training Program will help to enrich your yoga practice, expand your knowledge of yoga teachings and philosophy, and support you in discovering your unique voice and teaching style. This destination-based training program provides you with a dedicated opportunity to delve deeply into your yoga practice all while tuning in to the mindful flow of the Balinese culture! This format also offers the space for personal transformation and growth, both on and off your mat. Get ready to dig deep, learn a lot, experience a unique culture with adventurous new friends, work hard and have a lot of fun along the way! Your completion of our Yoga Alliance accredited 200-hour teacher training program gives you the valuable tools to transform your own life and deepen your personal yoga practice. You will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to share your passion and inspire transformation in others through the expression of yoga.

Our Yoga Alliance Approved 200HR Teacher Training Program is designed with you in mind! Our modular format allows you to work around busy schedules, while still finding room for personal growth and travel. Whether you are a lifelong yoga practitioner or learned your first Sanskrit word yesterday, if you are curious and enthused by yoga and adventure then our Yoga Alliance certified 200HR Teacher Training is perfect for you.

Unlike many other destination-based trainings, we don’t want you to be sitting inside a yoga studio the entire time while the enticing Balinese culture whirls around you. It is important that you are able to explore and experience the richness of Bali. Devata Active values experience-based learning. In addition to our studio time, we’ve also included several opportunities to dive into not-to-be-missed cultural experiences. From Tanah Lot temple to a traditional Balinese Dance in Ubud, we’ll have the opportunity to live out our yoga in a variety of settings.

Our Teacher Training Program is set up in a modular format:

Module 1: Bali Teacher Training Retreat [January 20th – February 1st]

We will begin our Program with a 13-day immersive training in Bali. We’ll delve deeply into all things yoga, including a mixture of personal practice, philosophy, functional anatomy, teaching principles and experiential learning as the smell of banana leaves float through the air! During this time, we’ll be at two locations getting to experience different areas of Bali. We will enjoy the first 5 days at our Private Villa with our own poolside yoga studio. The Villa is a short walk from Jalan Raya Seminyak, just steps from the best shopping, eateries and nightlife on the island and a five minute scooter ride from Double Six beach. During our downtime, you’ll be able to explore the enticing surrounding neighborhood or take a refreshing dip in our private pool. We’ll also have a personal chef on hand to ensure we our nourishing ourselves – mind, body and spirit!

On day 6, we say goodbye to the Villa and head to our home base for the remainder of the training, Floating Leaf Eco-Luxury Retreat, located in the small, traditional Balinese village of Sukawati. This peaceful oasis will allow us to focus without distraction, while still being close to many of Bali’s beaches and popular attractions. From here, we’ll continue to move deeper into our teachings and experience another aspect of Balinese culture.

Module 2: Distance-Based Learning Sessions [February 2nd – May 23th]

After our journey in Bali, we’ll stay connected through our distance learning online curriculum. This module will include home study such as reading assignments, online video trainings and live community calls to continue your studies. You will also develop a personal project and have yoga class attendance requirements, both as a student and to observe teachers in your local area.

Module 3: California Teacher Training Retreat [May 24th – May 27th]

Module 3 reunites us back together for a long 4-day weekend to complete our Program, continuing our studies and showing off everything you’ve learned during our training. We’ll join together at Kemper Campbell Ranch in the Mojave River Valley, the perfect setting to dedicate time to your practice and your burgeoning skills as a teacher and allow for a beautiful integration of the material we’ve covered to come together. You’ll share your personal projects with the group and continue to practice your teaching skills in preparation for your final teaching practicum. It will be a great weekend to celebrate all your hard work and connect with one another!

Each day together will begin with a Vinyasa flow and meditation practice, followed by a range of foundational topics such as anatomy, philosophy and the history of yoga. We will then explore topics ranging from alignment to working with students with injuries and conditions to chakras and the energy body, even finding your voice as a teacher. Each theme we cover will give you a deeper understanding of the many avenues of yoga available, and allow you to find which styles and approaches resonate with you most.

In our time apart, you will have access to training-specific Devata Active content. This will include membership access to our online classes, as well as our 200-hour trainee-exclusive Pose Breakdown video library. These will be especially helpful prior to our final weekend where we will emphasize practicum. Before we part ways, we make sure to prep each of our trainees on what their next steps can be into the business world of yoga based on where you would like your journey to lead. We are committed to guiding you, and your passion, in the right direction!

Below is a general breakdown of what we will be covering:

Melanie Cherney is a passionate Yoga Instructor, fitness lover, outdoor enthusiast and the Founder of Devata Active. She leads Yoga Teacher Trainings and Retreats around the world, in addition to her weekly classes and local workshops. Although primarily a Vinyasa instructor, Melanie is trained in Restorative Yoga (Judith Lasater) and Yin Yoga (Asheville Yoga Center) and completed her 500hr Yoga Teacher Training through YogaWorks. She continues to be a student of the practice, finding teachers to learn from wherever she goes.

In addition to her Yoga training, Melanie has a Master’s in Clinical Psychology and Art Therapy and is trained in a wide range of holistic healthcare practices. Her teachings draw from her background in mindfulness, yoga, psychology, energy medicine practices, creative expression and healthful living.

As a teacher, Melanie is inspired by the role that movement plays in personal growth and self-awareness. Her diverse background gives her a unique perspective on the mind-body connection and the value of an embodied practice to create a clearer vision of one’s path and greater empowerment to achieve it. She is grateful to her students who allow her to do what she loves and walk this path together.

For the first 5 days of our retreat, we will be based out of a private villa located in the Seminyak area of Bali. Our villa is a beautiful retreat from the hustle and bustle, offering a private tropical garden, well-equipped kitchen and dining area, an abundance of communal hubs and cozy little hangout spots to enjoy some quiet time, as well as a large open-plan yoga studio that overlooks the sparkling swimming pool. It is idyllically hidden away in a quiet lane of central Seminyak. While at the Villa, you will find peace and tranquility, while just outside the vibrant city center awaits. The colorful streets of Seminyak are great fun to explore, with all of its boutique shops, spas, restaurants and cafe’s. The beach, with laid-back hangouts, is also in walking distance from your haven, giving you the best of both worlds.

The Villa features traditional architecture ruled by stunning alang-alang roofed pavilions and elegant natural interior designs characterized by beautiful hand-carved teak furniture. It also has an impressive collection of traditional artwork and instruments to admire, descending from different islands across Indonesia. The open-air yoga studio, surrounded by lush gardens and a beautiful pool, will serve as the perfect space for us to spend our days learning and practicing. During these first days, all classes will be held at our private Villa yoga studio and meals will be prepared on-site by our personal chef.

All the bedrooms feature air-conditioning, big wardrobe closets, private veranda’s with garden view and wonderful private en-suite bathrooms fitted with tropical alfresco rain-showers. All of these secluded bedrooms are fitted with king-size or twin-beds to ensure a restful night sleep. The garden-like en-suites give great possibilities for showering beneath Bali’s beautiful starlit sky in the ambiance of tropical greenery and natural river stones. Single, Double, and Triple occupancy rooms are available.

There is the opportunity to stay at the Villa during our time here, or you may arrange alternate, nearby accommodations. Rooms at the Villa are limited, so make sure to reserve early to reserve your space at the Villa. Those who choose to stay elsewhere will arrange their own bookings. We can offer help should you need help exploring your alternate accommodation options.

Floating Leaf is a peaceful retreat center situated in the lush oasis of Sukawati, a small traditional Balinese Village. The secluded location is the perfect setting to nourish, recharge and heal your mind, body and spirit. With views of the Indian Ocean and Mount Agung Volcano, an organic permaculture garden, a Balinese spa and open-air Yoga Sanctuary, you’re sure to have everything you need to melt into the island vibes. And anyone looking for action will find world-class surf steps away.

You can feel good about staying at Floating Leaf! Floating Leaf Resort prides itself on being a true eco-retreat center, deeply caring for the environment and the preservation of the local landscape. Their mission is to be an exemplary model for sustainable living without sacrificing luxury, service or comfort. Every decision from flooring materials to the items on their menu are carefully made to respect and preserve the way of life and traditions of local communities and to minimize our impact on the environment by adhering to a policy of environmental sustainability.

All training attendees will stay at the Floating Leaf Eco-Luxury Retreat during our final week in Bali. Each room is well appointed with modern luxury and convenience, yet maintains a peaceful Balinese feel. Only double occupancy rooms are available.

This secluded oasis is an architectural marvel and a place of historic interest and legend, dating from the 1920’s to the present. A number of iconic literary and film works were created here, from Citizen Kane to Somewhere in Sonora with John Wayne. Guests from days of yore include Groucho Marx and Greta Garbo. It will be a fun backdrop for our time together!

When one drives over the hill and into the valley, everything changes as you enter into a timeless era. The ranch is a green oasis in the desert, with cattle grazing in its pastures, and a riverine Cottonwood forest following the Mojave River as it flows through the Mojave Narrows. The rooms are full of charm, maintaining much of the original character and architectural detail. When not immersed in our training, you will be able to enjoy the ranch amenities, including a swimming pool, tennis courts, horseshoes, and wonderful spaces to relax and converse with one another and take in the peaceful beauty of the area.
