INSTRUCTOR SHILOH FERRARO DESIGN STUDIO
Learning to sew helps youth develop life and career skills and other attributes that contribute to lifelong success. Our sewing camp focuses on positive youth development by teaching the art and skills to create useful items using a needle and thread, sewing machine and other sewing-related items. Through sewing projects, students learn to create clothing and accessories useful for everyday living. They also develop skills for a rewarding, stress-relieving hobby.
Fabric, pattern, supplies and materials for ONE dress and ONE headband included in price of camp. Sewing machines are also available for use. All you have to do is show up for camp. Afternoon snack and lunch provided.
During Day 1 - December 10, 2016 (11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)
Each student will learn machine basics; to include how to clean and care for their machine, the names and functions of each setting, the different stitches and their uses, as well as how to wind a bobbin and thread the machine. Next the students will have an opportunity to practice stitching on supplied practice sheets, at this time they will learn safety and technique. We will finish of Day 1 with learning how to properly press woven fabrics in preparation for sewing and each student will cut their pattern pieces and press the casings and hems.
Day 2 - December 17, 2016 (11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)
Will begin with with reading over the pattern and instructions. Next the students will begin to sew their dress. I will demonstrate each step while they follow along with their pattern instructions.
Day 2 - Fashion Show (2:30-3:30 p.m.)
Featuring designs made and modeled by the students. Light refreshments will be served. All parents/guardians are encouraged to attend.
Sewing experience is NOT required. Space is limited. Ideal for ages 10-16.
