An Evening of Square Dancing - Come Watch
Sample a uniquely American dance hobby that can change your life. Come watch the performance of the official Illinois State dance, also the official dance of about half the other states as well.
Is there a charge?
Visitors/spectators are free. Please register at https://SquareDanceNight.eventbrite.com/ and come on out.
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
All ages are welcome. You will be on the same floor as the dancers, so we ask that you keep your children out of the way of the dancers for their own safety and the safety of the dancers. You're welcome to socialize with others, including the dancers while they're not dancing, but those who are dancing need to be able to hear the caller, so please respect that.
Is this the same square dancing I did in school (and likely hated)?
Probably not, unless you had a Modern Western Square Dance Caller come to your school to teach the class. If your Gym/PE teacher taught it, most likely they did a very limited, much older form of square dancing. What we do is Modern Western Square Dancing and it's done to 1950s/1960s music, old and new Country music, and modern/current music. The 1920s-1940s music is pretty much gone. Remember, as they say, "Variety is the spice of life!"
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There is a parking lot on the east side of the church that is accessible from 4th St. By the way, the parking there is free for the events.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Just bring yourself and your friends (please have them register themselves as well.) You're welcome to bring your waterbottle if you are environmentally conscious. We have water available to refill it.
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Send e-mail to email@example.com or click the [Contact the Organizer] button on the side of this event's page.
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
You didn't pay for it, so just cancel it, but we'll miss having you. Someone else can register their own.
Can I update my registration information?
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Nah, print it, bring it on your phone/tablet, or forget it at home... we really just want you to come enjoy the evening!
What is the refund policy?
If you don't have fun, your registration fee will be completely refunded. But just remember, it's free to register! You're always welcome to make a donation to our organization; however, while we are a not-for-profit organization, donations to our club are not tax-deductible. (Though donations made directly to the church we rent for the events would be; they probably wouldn't refuse them either - please donate by check (no cash) made payable to "First Presbyterian Church of Downers Grove".)
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
See "Is my registration/ticket transferrable" above...
I didn't come to the last one. Is that okay?
Of course. It's a social evening. If you enjoy the evening and would like to learn so you can join us on the floor at dances in the future, ask at the sign-in table or ask any member of the Call and Caper Club for information. We wear oval+rectangular club name badges with a red background and yellow writing/logos.
Call & Caper Club hosts monthly square dances on the first Saturday of each month from September to June. See our website www.CallAndCaper.org for additional details.
