First Friday Founder Fireside Chats are BACK!!! #FridayFounders

Join us at the Kapor Center to celebrate International Women's Day and for an evening of diverse and inclusive tech entrepreneurship! The Kapor Center and Oakland Startup Network invite you to join us for our quarterly fireside chats at 5:30pm in Lotus Theatre, as we kick-off 2019.

Our March discussion will focus on the various stages of entrepreneurship and the essential steps involved to go from idea to seed.

You'll have the opportunity to network with other current and aspiring founders of color, future team members, and maybe some potential investors. Come and celebrate with our tech ecosystem and diverse Oakland community!

Carolina Huaranca | Principal, Kapor Capital

Carolina Huaranca Mendoza joined Kapor Capital in 2016 and focuses on identifying early-stage investments and partnering with entrepreneurs to grow their companies. She is particularly interested in investments in future work, urban tech, and education. Prior to becoming Principal, she was an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Kapor Center for Social Impact (KCSI) working on a tech platform for teacher professional development.

Carolina began her technology career as a Sales & Marketing Manager at SchoolNet; which was sold to Pearson for $230MM. In 2012, she founded Spriggle, a marketplace that helped parents identify science and math inspired products for children ages 3-9.

Carolina is a graduate of Cornell University and was awarded the Konologie MBA Fellowship at The Wharton School. As a woman and first-generation Peruvian-American hailing from Long Island, Carolina is passionate about ensuring that people from all backgrounds know how to navigate getting access to capital and advice. Based on her experience serving as the founding National Director of Girls Who Code Clubs, where she launched 186 Clubs serving approximately 2,000 girls, she is extremely passionate about working to close the gender gap in technology and mentors young women technologists.

Carolina has been recognized by Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) as a Latino Leader and a Cosmo Latina Fun, and Fearless Award Winner alongside Jessica Alba. She has also been featured in TechCrunch, CNN Money, Univision, SF Chronicle, USA Today, and Latina Magazine.

Deborah Kang | Director, Startup@Berkeley Law

Deborah Kang is the Director of Startup@BerkeleyLaw, where she educates and supports startups and investors from across the UC Berkeley campus, Silicon Valley, and beyond. At UC Berkeley, Deborah manages and instructs in the FORM+FUND Certificate Program, Berkeley Venture Capital Academy and more.

Prior to joining UC Berkeley, Deborah was a trademark and intellectual property attorney at the law firm Fenwick & West.

Dianna Tremblay | Director, ICA Fund Good Jobs

Dianna Tremblay is the Director of Acceleration at ICA Fund Good Jobs which invests in high potential businesses to create economic freedom for those who need it most. She is ultimately responsible for scaling the impact of their Good Jobs Accelerator and cultivating the support and capital ecosystem necessary for entrepreneurs to scale their businesses. Prior to joining ICA Fund Good Jobs, Dianna's professional experience included sales, corporate relationship management, and business development roles in e-commerce and textbook publishing.

Bri James | Innovator in Residence at Kapor Center iLab

Bri James is the founder of Workologie, a platform where employee resource groups (ERGs) can manage their memberships, track and report out KPIs and easily connect with ERGs from other organizations. Previously, she was the founder of Scrumpt Fresh, a lunch-kit subscription service for kids that launched on the 2015 Tech Crunch Disrupt stage, delivering tens of thousands of lunches to families across America.

A third-generation East Bay-er, Bri's post-secondary years were spent in the Southeast where she graduated from Emory University with a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in African American Studies. She received her JD from Duke University School of Law. Once an inspiring animator, Bri spends her hypothetical free time working on kid-friendly shorts and explaining the nuanced tenants of stop-gap animation to her West Highland Terrier, Grizzly Bear.
