Prosthetic Symposium: Interventions for Limb Loss

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:

  • describe general pre- and postoperative management of the individual with a lower limb amputation
  • describe the overall prosthetic process from amputation surgery to fitting of a definitive device
  • compare and contrast the processes of transtibial prosthetic component configuration of bench, static and dynamic alignments
  • explain the general process of donning a transtibial or transfemoral prosthesis
  • describe general activities of physical therapy that prepare the prosthetic user for ambulation, such as: weight shifting, balance training, proprioception training and use of assistive devices
  • communicate the benefits of using outcome measures with lower limb prosthetic patients
  • discuss the Prosthetics Limb Users Survey of Mobility (PLUS-M) assessment, how it was developed, how it is used to assess mobility for patients that use lower limb prosthetics to provide objective outcomes
  • define correlation with outcomes and standard of care
  • identify trends in adult limb loss populations
  • review sample patient case studies and best practice approach to rehabilitation and a successful care plan
  • demonstrate the value in a healthcare team approach to limb loss patient care

Continuing Education Requirements and Credits

All attendees are required to attend the entire session, sign in at the beginning at the end of the course. Throughout the presentation learning outcomes will be assessed through instructor interaction and attendee’s participation and verbal responses to Q & A unless a written assessment is required by an applicable approving State Board or Organization.
