The Amarkalam Project is a Hyde Park native Indo-jazz ensemble featuring Varshini Narayanan on flute/vocals, John Bitoy III on piano, and Aparaajit Sriram on percussion. Artistic Director Varshini Narayanan has spent three decades training in the South Asian classical tradition alongside explorations in Western classical music and jazz. The group performs original arrangements of ancient Carnatic melodies and compositions, pairing a contemporary and avant-garde improvising sensibility with a traditional South Asian soundscape.
