What kind of boards can I make?

How do I care for my board?

Accepted Answer

You will be given detailed instructions for taking care of your board. As long as you apply cutting board oil regularly and follow instructions, these boards can last a very long time

What will be size of final cutting board?

Accepted Answer

Final dimensions will be approx 12 x 15.5 inch, and approx 3/4 inches thick

Question 5

What machines do I get to use while making my board?

Accepted Answer

You will be using a SawStop table saw, planar, and an orbital sander. If you wish to have a profile around the edge, the instructor will perform routing for you. If you wish to get engraving, the instructor will help you position it on your board and will user a laser machine to engrave it for you.

Question 6

Can I engrave the board?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Engraving your name and/or graphics are best applied to a single wood as the laser won't etch different woods identically. If you plan to do this, allow for a wider strip of the same wood where you can apply the engraving. See the example in the pictures above.

Question 7

Do I need to bring anything to the class?

Accepted Answer

All wood will be provided by i3. Additionally i3 will provide you safety glasses while operating machinery and a mask for sanding. You are welcome to bring your own personal protection equipment if you prefer.
