Course description: AI is here to stay. But what is all the fuss about? Empower yourself with practical knowledge of this technology's capabilities and limitations. We will discuss the basics of how AI is used and its limitations, how to spot AI and protect yourself from scams and misinformation, and ethical use considerations. This training is designed for adults who are new to AI—not a deep dive, just basic use and everyday considerations. Leave confident to join conversations about AI.

Note from the venue: There has been some confusion lately on the “Everyday AI” class we are offering, mostly by people who read headlines but not the actual article (i.e., the event description). So to be clear, we do not support or promote the usage of AI. We never have and never will. We are disgusted by the human and environmental resources it is ravaging, which is a whole other post. However, to rebuke it without any knowledge of how to stay safe from it is like saying,, “I don’t support microplastics and you shouldn’t either” while inhaling and ingesting them daily (which is a thing, feel free to look it up). It’s everywhere now, and it’s largely unavoidable, due to the billionaire class forcing it into every platform that you’re using- including this one this message is being delivered to you from! Your work is likely using it in some form, your boss probably green-lit a project using it, etc. This class is about awareness of both the application and ethical considerations, and about empowering yourself to help make informed choices when it comes to AI. It is about offering education and giving you ways to make decisions on how to stay safe that are within your control.
