Join Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program for a guided paddle at Big Lagoon State Park!

Join Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program, Florida Sea Grant and UF IFAS Extension for a guided paddle at Big Lagoon State Park! You'll learn about estuarine environments and the critters that call these ecosystesm home! Keep your eyes peeled for birds and wildlife that might fly or swim by!

Must be 14+ and able to independently operate your paddle craft to participate.

Borrow one of our kayaks for free or BYOK!

Big Lagoon State Park has kayaks available for rental for a fee, but attendees are responsible for coordinating their rental through the state park directly. If you wish to rent through the state park, please register as a "BYOK" ticket.

BYOK - Bring Your Own Kayak (or other paddle craft) participants must bring and wear a life jacket with a whistle. Please plan to arrive at 8:30am to offload and prepare your paddle craft and gear. Be aware that Big Lagoon State Park does not open until 8:00am and you cannot block the park entrance but you can wait across the street at the Southwest Library.

Registration is required for this event even if you are bringing your own paddle craft. This event has a set group size in order to maintain a safe tour. If tickets sell out you can email info@ppbep.org to be added to a waitlist. Additional details will be sent to registered attendees 1 day before the event.

Each participate must have the ability to:

  • Wear all protective equipment recommended/required by industry standards (life jacket)
  • Enter and exit the raft (boat, canoe, kayak ) independently or with the assistance of a companion
  • Remain seated and balanced
  • Ability to move kayak through the water in a stable manner and return it to kayak launch
  • Follow directions from program guides

This program requires you to enter and exit a kayak, paddle, and maintain balance. Participants are welcome to bring any adaptive equipment they may have to assist with the abilities listed above.

If you register and are no longer able to attend, please email us at info@ppbep.org so we can open up a spot to our waitlist. If a spot opens, we will contact folks on our waitlist in order and give 24 hours to respond to claim the spot.
