Event description

Description

1942 was a crucial year for the United States military in World War II. Join us to commemorate a few important events from that fateful year, as the Hampton Roads Naval Museum and the MacArthur Memorial will co-host a symposium on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Come hear three speakers talk about this year:

Vincent O’Hara, author of Torch: North Africa and the Allied Path to Victory will discuss the complex and ambitious invasion of North Africa known as Operation Torch. Marine archaeologist Tane Casserly will explore the Battle of the Atlantic through shipwrecks located off the coast of Virginia/North Carolina. The final speaker is Pete Bulkeley, the son of PT-41 commander Lieutenant John D. Bulkeley. He will provide intimate details of General Douglas MacArthur’s escape from the Philippines.

This event is FREE and open to the public. Doors will open at 8:00am, and the event will start at 8:30am.

Please contact Elijah Palmer with any questions (elijah.palmer@navy.mil).
