Description

- Helping Hand Home for Children is pleased to announce that country music singer and songwriter Jimmy Wayne will make his encore appearance as the featured speaker for the 18th Annual Champions for Children Awards Luncheon presented by Don Hewlett Chevrolet Buick. The event will be held on Thursday, October 19th at noon, at the JW Marriott Austin. Proceeds from the event benefit Helping Hand Home for Children. It is the mission of Helping Hand Home to provide a nurturing and therapeutic home for children who have suffered unimaginable abuse and neglect.

Country music singer and songwriter Jimmy Wayne’s inspirational life story takes you from a childhood of rejection, abuse and poverty to the stage at Madison Square Garden. Even with his recording success, Himmy felt that he needed to do something to raise awareness about the 30,000 children who age out of the foster system each year. On August 1, 2010 he successfully walked 1,700 milies to advocate for these youth. In addition to to three Top 10 singles on the US Country charts, Jimmy has also written his autobiography, Walk to Beautiful: The Power of Love and a Homeless Kid Who Found the Way, has resulted in the successful passing of foster care legislation in California and Tennessee.

Ron Franklin will serve as masters of ceremonies for the 18th year. The Chairs for this year’s Champions for Children awards luncheon are Julie Baselice, Robert Howden and Marla Kiger. Helping Hand Home will honor Austin community caregivers and volunteers for their exemplary work with children’s causes. The 2017 Honorees include: John Hewlett, Principal, Lee Elementary School; Patricia Murphy, Foster Parent, Helping Hand Home; Project Suite Pea; and Norm Sternfeld, LifeWorks.

This year’s Philanthropic Honorees are longtime Austinites Ava and Steve Late. They have been tremendous supporters of the Austin community for decades. As owners of Late European, the Late’s have instilled a culture of philanthropy among their employees.
