A Civil War Ball is planned on Friday, July 15, 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, in the restored German Bank Barn at Allison Antrim Museum as part of the activities leading up to 1864 The Burning. The 2016 Civil War Ball features the Victorian Dance Ensemble, the performing troupe of the Civil War Dance Foundation. Dancing to recorded music, the members of the Victorian Dance Ensemble will demonstrate the dance, place guests in proper formation, and help them execute the dance.
Participants may dress in Civil War era attire, contemporary formal attire, or contemporary business attire. The ball is open to children twelve and older and adults. Ball tickets are $15 for adults or $25 per couple.
The Civil War Ball was more than a dance. It was the doorway to Victorian culture, and during the Civil War, a bit of social normalcy and respite from the reality of America's strife. Balls during the Civil War illustrated the period's views on gender and each gender's role in society as well as being a social event to bring people together for fellowship. Step back in time and experience the Victorian culture through dance.
