Each major military medical center hosts a Fisher House to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House Program serves more than 11,000 families and has made available nearly three million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990. There is no charge for families to stay at a Fisher House operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Fisher House Foundation uses donations to support the individual Fisher House, which are operated, by the Army, Navy, and Air Force around the country.

For the past 16 years the Salty Dawgs have hosted this charity poker run which 100% of all proceeds go to the Fisher House located at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
