About the Instititute:

The Autism Summer Institute is an annual workshop aimed a providing high quality professional development to a wide spectrum of professionals, including ESE and general education teachers, guidance counselors, school psychologists, SLPs, OTs, instructional assistants administrators, and parents who impact the lives of students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The 16th Annual PEPSA Autism Summer Institute will feature an all-day keynote speaker on Tuesday, and consist of a series of breakout sessions followed by a keynote presentation on Wednesday. 


This year's Autism Summer Institute:

Day 1 - Tuesday, July 18, 2017

This year's featured keynote presentation will be given by Brenda Smith Myles, Ph.D., on the topics of Brain Based Information and Simple Strategies that Work. Brenda is a consultant with the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence and the Ziggurat Group. She has made over 1000 presentations all over the world and has written more than 250 articles and books on ASD. Additionally, she has served as the co-chair of the National ASD Teacher Standards Committee and is the recipient of a number of awards, including the Autism Society of America's Outstanding Professional Award, the Princeton Fellowship Award, and the Global and Regional Asperger's Syndrome Divine Neurotypical Award. Recently, a survey conducted by the University of Texas acknowledged Brenda as the second most productive resercher in ASD in the world.

Day 2 - Wednesday, July 19, 2017

Day two will consist of a series of breakout sessions on a variety of topics, followed by a keynote presentation on Behavior Strategies. Breakout topics are:

  • Trauma and Anxiety
  • Science: Simple Strategies that Work
  • Work Systems
  • Instructional Strategies for General Education
  • Environmental Communication Training & Core Board Vocabulary
  • Making Math Meaningful
  • Transition
