Peatlands in Harmony – Agriculture, Industry & Nature
The 15th Congress of the International Peatland Society will be held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia on 15th - 19th August 2016. This is the first time a Congress has been held in Southeast Asia and it presents a marvellous opportunity to showcase peatlands, science, industry and this region to the world. It will provide a platform to bring together East and West and North and South to convey a unique mixture of cultures and a vast experience of research on peatlands and peat.
The theme of the congress is ‘Peatlands in Harmony– Agriculture, Industry & Nature'. Presentations will relate to an integrated global perspective for the responsible use of peatlands and the preservation of their unique dynamics and natural biodiversity. The Congress aims to allow the exchange of ideas, data and experiences between scientists and entrepreneurs on the topic of peat and peatlands. There will be three key congress symposiums. In addition, we will have a special session on soft soil engineering.

The Malaysian Peat Society is a non-governmental and a non-profit organization that aims to foster national and international co-operation concerning peatlands, peat and related materials with a view to advancing knowledge and understanding in the scientific, technical, industrial and general economic fields especially relating to the wise use of peat and peatlands, and to affiliate the peat community in Malaysia to the International Peatland Society.
Activities of MPS include inter alia publication and distribution of newsletters, organizing scientific meetings, creating data base on technical, economic and educational materials concerning peat and peatlands.
Membership of the Society consists of individual members and corporate members. Individual membership are open to all individuals with residence in Malaysia and in the exceptional cases in neighbouring countries who are interested directly or indirectly in the study and or utilization of peatlands and peat. Corporate memberships is open to all scientific, technical and commercial organizations operating in Malaysia that are interested directly or indirectly in the study and or utilization of peatlands and peat.
