– A Series of Free Outdoor Fitness Classes –

Avenue B between East 8th and East 12th Streets

The 14Y is proud to partner with Loisaida Open Streets Community Coalition (LOSCC) with support from NYC Departments of Transportation and Small Business Services this summer to expand our group fitness class offerings and support our vibrant downtown community!

Join us on Wednesdays and Saturdays in August and September for Zumba, Masala Bhangra, and Heart and Soul Cardio Dance to stay active, enjoy some sunshine, and connect with your neighbors!

All fitness levels welcome!

Zumba with Fiorella

Saturdays | July 9 – July 30 | 1:00 – 2:00 PM

Ave B at East 9th Street (between East 8th and East 9th Streets)

Zumba combines high energy, captivating music with Latin-inspired moves that will leave you asking for more! Zumba is a “feel good” workout for all levels. This class is part of FAB’s Open Arts LES Program.

Zumba with Sophia | Part of Citywide Dance Party

Saturday | August 6 | 12:00 – 1:00 PM

Ave B at East 9th Street (between East 8th and East 9th Streets)

Join LOSCC and FABnyc for the Citywide Dance Party, Open Arts LES Style! This event kicks off with Zumba with Sophia at 12:00 PM, followed by a salsa dancing class at 1:00 PM as well as Latin and salsa band Sonido Costeño and African diasporic music from DJ Sabine. Food and refreshments will be served.

Saturdays | August 13 – September 24 | 1:00 – 2:00 PM

Masala Bhangra with Cloe

Wednesdays | Starting August 10 | 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Ave B at East 11th Street (between East 11th and East 12th Streets)

An Indian dance-based fitness program for people of all ages and fitness levels. You will be introduced to high energy Bhangra and Bollywood dance movements in an easy-to-follow fitness format.

Heart and Soul Cardio Dance with Johari

Wednesdays | Starting August 10 | 6:45 PM – 7:30 PM

Ave B at East 11th Street (between East 11th and East 12th Streets)

Come dance, connect and move! Celebrate, dance and jam with instructor Johari Mayfield as she takes you on a soulful dance journey to the rhythms of African drums. No previous dance experience necessary. All fitness levels welcome.

Health and Safety Guidelines for Outdoor Fitness Classes

The health and safety of our downtown community remains our top priority. In accordance with CDC guidelines and the community safety standards, all staff and participants are asked to maintain social distancing whenever possible. 

Emergency and service vehicles may occasionally need to access a permitted closed street. Bicycles and pedestrians are allowed at all times. At the direction of a 14Y staff member, participants may be asked to temporarily move aside.

All participants will be asked to sign a waiver before participating in a class.

Our retail diversity, zoning and preservation initiatives help keep the East Village special.

About the Loisaida Open Streets Community Coalition

The Loisaida Open Streets Community Coalition (LOSCC) is a volunteer group bringing socially distanced recreation, fitness, performances and cultural events to Ave B. LOSCC was granted official stewardship of the Open Street by the Department of Transportation (DOT) in June 2020.

About the Loisaida, Inc. Center

Loisaida, Inc. stands firm on its original mission– Address the serious economic and social disenfranchisement of poor and low income Latino residents, with employment and training opportunities, comprehensive youth development initiatives, as well as neighborhood revitalization activities that positively highlight the rich culture, heritage, and contribution of the Puerto Rican and Latin American community in this City– while offering programming that meets the demands of the times and the neighborhood’s changing demographic. In its new home in 710 East 9th Street, Loisaida builds a connection between community, learners, artists and scholars through affordable education opportunities in cultural fields, S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) design and everyday life. Our approach celebrates the urban surroundings, grassroots invention and immigrant spirit of the Loisaida neighborhood in its dedication to celebrate Latino cultural vitality and their contributions to NYC.

GOLES (Good Old Lower East Side) is a neighborhood housing and preservation organization that has served the Lower East Side of Manhattan since 1977. We’re dedicated to tenants’ rights, homelessness prevention, economic development, and community revitalization.
