Fourteenth Annual Teacher Institute
July 27-28, 2023 | Free
Join Library of Virginia staff members and guest speakers in this year’s two-day Teacher Institute. The fourteenth annual Brown Teacher Institute will focus on research and projects on local stories and histories that have typically been hidden or neglected from mainstream narratives. Institute participants will not only learn about the rich history of Virginia, but also enrich their understanding of how local stories fit into our national history. The Institute will offer tools, resources, and content to aid educators in teaching these local stories and hidden histories in the classroom. Teachers will explore how to use primary sources to enhance student learning and discover new digital resources.
As part of a two year initiative, the Library of Virginia will host a teacher institute in each of the eight superintendent’s regions, and will select four Brown Fellows in both 2022 and 2023 (one from each region) to present their research during a session at their region’s teacher institute. For the 14th Annual Brown Teacher Institute (summer 2023), the Library seeks fellows from regions two, three, five, and seven.
This year’s institute is currently being planned as in-person.
Teachers must attend the entire Institute to receive a PD certificate.
Detailed schedule will be announced soon. Contact Elizabeth Klaczynski at elizabeth.klaczynski@lva.virginia.gov or Catherine Fitzgerald Wyatt at catherine.fitzgeraldwyatt.lva.virginia.gov with any questions.
