Event description

Description

Crossdressing was practiced since the age of time, as well as around the world, in popular culture dates from 11 century while others are contemporary. One of the Chinese tales, probably the most familiar one to western culture is Mulan Hua, the devoted daughter crossdressed and joined the army in place of her father.

Probably Mulan is not the best example for crossdressing. While in the Disney Movie, after the war is over and the society back to “normal”, Mulan returns home and dresses in women clothing again, which reasserting her feminine gender identity. However, in most cases, crossdressing is a well known fact that some choose to ignore for the politics, cultural or religious discomfort it generates or endorse resiliently and painfully for its economic necessity.

It is a phenomenon one might think is a fashion caprice, or is solely related to gender orientation, but when deepening the knowledge about it, one discovers that there is much more to it than that.

Gilles Montezin, renown Haute Couture Designer whose pieces has been filmed in “Sex and City”,"Ugly Betty", will share his interesting findings in the history of crossdressing and open to a discussion of the power of crossdressing and crossdressers, how it affects the self expression, gender stereotypes and self-limiting biases.
