Malcolm's Military Meanderings

Malcolm Brooke

Malcolm was fortunate to spend virtually all his working life in Cyprus & Germany and, with the support of an understanding wife and family, spent many happy hours exploring bunkers, borders and places of military significance.

His talk is a fascinating journey through the military history of the UK and Europe gained in these  military meanderings

Working in Cyprus in 1974, Malcolm saw the coup first-hand and the subsequent Turkish invasion.  In 1989, whilst working in Germany he experienced the events of November 9th when the Berlin Wall fell.  A winter holiday in neighbouring Denmark led to the discovery of a memorial that changed his life.  More than 24 years of living in Germany have enabled Malcolm to follow up numerous lines of interest. Now living for approximately half the year in Cyprus, Malcolm has been able to explore the scars that still remain following the events of 1974. Recently he has discovered that his UK home is only a short distance from an abandoned nuclear missile site.
