About NLGJA: Our Community NLGJA: Our Community is a new initiative from NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists that brings members together locally to share resources and strengthen connections through chapter-led events across the country, creating spaces for support, dialogue and collaboration among LGBTQ+ journalists. Safety Commitment Statement The Abbey has a Zero-Tolerance Policy — posted throughout the venue — which clearly states:<ul><li>The Abbey is a safe and inclusive space for all members of our community.</li><li>Staff will immediately remove any guests or staff for any instances of transphobia, racism, misogyny, homophobia, biphobia, or ableism.</li><li>Any acts of violence will result in the immediate expulsion of all parties involved, and we report all violent or illegal activity to law enforcement</li></ul>Guests are encouraged to report any concerns directly to management or via email at abbey@theabbeyweho.com.Additional Safety Measures<ul><li>Certified as an LGBTQ+ Safe Space by The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI) in 2024.</li><li>Robust security presence, including trained personnel during all events. Drink safety resources available upon request (testing strips and staff trained to respond to safety concerns).</li><li>Staff training includes bystander intervention, de-escalation, and inclusive hospitality practices.</li><li>Public-facing PSA campaigns promoting community responsibility, awareness and safety.</li></ul> Please note that LA Chapter Co-President Hansen Bursic and Events Committee Chair Richard Martinez will be in attendance, ready to help attendees who may need assistance.
